Cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation

Cognition refers to information-processing functions, including memory, attention, and executive functions, such as planning, problem-solving, self- monitoring, and self-awareness. Functional cognition is the interaction of cognitive skills, community living skills and self-care. It refers to the processing and thinking skills needed to accomplish complex everyday activities such as household management, financial management, work, medication management, volunteer activities, and driving.

Perception is our ability to process information from the world around us and make sense of it. This can be through seeing, smelling, touching, hearing or tasting, in other words, using all our senses.

Both cognitive and perceptual skills can be affected by certain health conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s disease.

At MC Occupational Therapy, we offer the following services:

  • Assess functional cognition and perception
  • Stimulate or treat deficits
  • Implementing and educating on adaptive measure and functional solutions
