Functional Capacity Assessments

At MC Occupational Therapy, we offer Functional Capacity Assessments- a series of tests that determine the ability of a worker to perform the physical, cognitive and mental tasks in their role at work.

We perform the assessment to help a worker to return to their job after a period of medical leave, by establishing which specific light duties can be safely allocated to the worker concerned. We also look at the degree and nature of rehabilitation that may be necessary before a worker can return to their daily tasks.

A functional capacity assessment can include but not limited to the following tests:

• Tolerance to functional activities such as carrying, lifting, reaching, sitting
• Physical and mental endurance 
• Range of movement, muscle strength and other physical components
• Psychological screening
• Cognitive and perceptual abilities
